Instagram was released as an iphone app in 2010, and since then has been one of the most popular photo-sharing services around. Facebook has been watching their every move since they Launched. On Monday Facebook announced they were buying Instagram for one Billion dollars.
Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg stated that the Instagram team would be joining Facebook. In hopes to make Facebook’s photo-sharing
even better, he also said that he would leave the service largely Independent. Users of Instagram will be able to have separate lists for followers and friends on both the Facebook and Instagram services. Instagram users will also still be able to share or not share photos to social networks of their choice. Mark Zuckerberg believes that the Facebook team will help grow Instagram and at the same time Facebook can learn and implement some of the newer companies features.
Instagram currently has over 30 million users currently and now that Facebook owns them they should have a huge influx of users. Since the release of Instagram on the Android platform, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said he thinks Instagram can easily hit 100 million users.
Some are saying that Facebook acquired Instagram for the mobile engagement and not just the users. Instagram is seeing over 100 million photo uploads a day that are Geo targeted. That is a lot of personal information that Facebook is now getting their hands on.
So what are the users saying?
I wanted to see what the users on Instagram are saying about Facebook buying the app. So I went to Twitter and show a lot of people that did not want to see the photo-sharing app fall into Facebook’s hands. I also read some other funny comments that didn’t really have much to do with the Instagram buyout, but were funny none the less. Check out these @instagram Tweets to see what you think.
I personally think that Instagram was at the right time at the right place and got acquired for a great deal of money that they obviously were worth to Facebook.
Will you guys still use Instagram? What is your opinion on the post?
I read and got information from CBSNews, Webpronews and Macworld to help write my article.
