Before you launch anything especially your blog you want to have all our goals in line. Ask yourself, what is the purpose of your business blog and what do you want to achieve? Are you trying to increase sales? Add value to your products or service? Raise awareness for your brand? Open a dialog between you and your clients or prospects? Provide customer service or support? Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in your field? Draw attention to other websites? Give more personality to your company image? Whatever they may be, it is very possible to hit multiple goals through your business blog. Choose what path you want to take with your blog and do your research! See what your competition is doing with their blogs. Figure out a way that will make your blog stand out and be different or “better” then anyone else in your field.
2) Having unique Content:
Having unique content for your blog is what’s going to make you stand out and draw attention to your site. That is the ultimate goal right? The first step to having unique content is having a unique idea or way that you will display and present your content. The second step is having a writing quality and style which is distinctive. Compelling writing will help brand your business and keep your readers coming back, and sharing your blog posts and feed.
3) Building Traffic:
Building traffic to your blog is not the easiest thing to do, and can get discouraging at some points, but these tips implemented correctly will have a huge impact on the traffic to your blog. The first and most basic tip, is it to write about something your target audience actually wants to read about! The next thing would be to optimize your blog for search engines! This takes the know how to get done but the very basic idea is to use the correct keywords and placement in your URL, titles and posts. a more detailed explanation of how this is done will be explained in upcoming posts. You can also submit your blog and RSS feed to directories to build organic traffic. One of the most important ways to build traffic to your site is to change your blog posts into articles. Then submit those articles to article directories like knol.google.com. Another great way to build your traffic is to find a way to capture your viewers email and use that to send them a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly newsletter.
4) Monetizing your Blog:
Their are a few different ways you can monetize your blog. The first things that come to mind for me are offering a different or special service or product through your blog that your main site might not have or focus on and add a paypal or cart option to be able to process payments. Another great way to make some money from your blog is to have ads like an adsense campaign or even some affiliate programs might work for your blog. In the adds and affiliate program side of monetizing your blog you need to be careful not to irritate your audience and make your company or brand look to tacky and cluttered.
5) Leave your readers wanting more:
It is nothing worse then having your readers leave your post or article halfway through to click on something else that looks more important or that caught their attention. Just like a good speaker knows when to end the conversation, so should a good blogger know when to end the post. Have a compelling post that feeds your audience with the information that they where looking for. Yet at the same time they should feel like they want to see the next post your wrote about on this subject, or the next topic you wrote about that might help them out with their other issues or questions.
On that note, Please comment back with any other things that we might be able to add to the conversation!
